Length owns the jokes, the exaggerated dating-app claims, and the rulers. Circumference does a lot of practical work. It affects condom fit, can affect comfort, and is a separate dimension of anatomy. So here's its moment.
First, measure the right thing
Girth is circumference around the shaft, not diameter across it. A soft tape works. At a consistent point around the mid-shaft, measure erect circumference without squeezing the tape into the skin.
That is a different number from length. The two are related dimensions, but they cannot be combined into one clinically validated percentile simply by averaging two percentile scores.
What studies found
Veale and colleagues reported mean erect circumference of 11.66 cm (4.59 in) with a pooled standard deviation of 1.10 cm, based on 381 relevant measurements. A 2025 meta-analysis reported a larger erect-circumference sample of 5,168 men and a mean of 11.91 cm (4.69 in). The second study does not provide an interchangeable population standard deviation for our percentile calculator.
Those are two distinct statistical contexts, not a debate where one decimal point wins.
Why girth matters in the real world
Condoms have different nominal widths, stretch profiles, shapes, and materials. A condom that constricts uncomfortably or slides around is a fitting problem, not a masculinity problem. Your circumference is often the more useful starting measurement when exploring fit.
Girth can also influence a partner's comfort and preferences, just as length can. What feels best differs widely among people and even across situations for the same person. One number can't forecast everybody's experience.
The unusual-size victory lap, with a tape measure
If you're significantly above the published circumference average, yes, that's an unusual trait. It's perfectly okay to enjoy that. You don't need a fake combined 'king score' to make it legitimate.
But there is a fun twist: no chart tells you how good you are at listening, how patient you are, or whether you have the right supplies in the bedside drawer. Those are still very much in your control.
