CURIOSITY IS NOT AN ORIENTATION TEST

Are Straight Guys Curious About Other Guys’ Dicks?

Male bodies are hidden, socially loaded and compared. Noticing one does not come with a diagnostic label.

The direct answer

Yes, heterosexual men can notice and compare other men’s genitals. Research documents peer comparison and shows men use penis size as one cue when judging male rivals. But there is no good statistic saying what percentage of straight men look, and looking alone cannot determine orientation.

There is a strange cultural rule around male nudity:

Everybody knows guys compare.

Everybody jokes about guys comparing.

Then everybody acts shocked that a straight man might actually look.

We do not have a credible “what percentage look?” number

No good population study gives us a clean statistic for how many heterosexual men glance at another man's penis in a changing room.

So claims like “every straight guy looks” are anecdotes, not data.

We do have evidence that comparison happens

Peer comparison appears repeatedly in research on male genital self-image. A locker-room study also found that penile appearance is socially salient enough to become a common target of teasing.

And we now have experimental evidence about rivalry

In 2026, men viewing systematically varied male bodies rated figures with larger penises as more sexually competitive and modestly more threatening in a fight.

That is not the same as sexual attraction. It shows that men can process another man's genital size as social information.

Curiosity can have several motives

  • comparison
  • novelty
  • envy
  • competitiveness
  • attraction
  • simple disbelief

One glance cannot tell you which.

The bottom line

Straight does not mean blind. Looking is behavior. Orientation describes a broader pattern of attraction and identity.
